Happy 1st Birthday Amelia!!!

It has been a long and short year! A year ago today our miracle baby girl was born. I remember it like it was yesterday. I woke up at the normal 6am on August 28, 2007 and my blood pressure was a bit high. The doctor’s came in to my room multiple times that morning checking on me. Around 11:30am I was wheeled into Labor and Delivery and the doctor’s were weighing the odds on just upping my blood pressure medication or my having to deliver. Dr. Hebert wanted a growth ultrasound so we could see what size Amelia would be if we delivered that day. During the ultrasound it was clear that there was a problem and we were going to have to deliver Amelia that day. I called Rob at work and asked if he was okay with sharing his birthday with our daughter and he said he didn’t mind and then I proceeded to tell him that he needed to come to the hospital as soon as possible so that she could be born. Amelia was born at 28 weeks gestation (which was 3 months early) weighing 1 lb. 10 oz. and was 13 inches long. Amelia spent the first day of her life on a ventilator to help with her breathing but she was shortly taken off and only had one hiccup after being removed from the ventilator and spent one other day on the ventilator before she was finally just on high flow nasal cannula. On day three of life Amelia was smiling for the camera. Amelia came home from the hospital at 4 lbs a month before her due date. She has grown over the past year. Rob doesn’t think it has been fast enough, but Dr. Duffy, our pediatrician thinks it is perfect! At her one year appointment, Amelia weighed in at 17 lbs 1 oz. Can you believe that?? She was also 27 inches long. She is finally on the charts for growth and is doing wonderfully! As those of you who read this regularly know, she has started to crawl, cut teeth and then yesterday, she started doing high fives. She is so smart and getting so big! I have been so blessed to have such a remarkable baby girl. She is amazing! Happy Birthday my baby girl!!! (and Rob too). Here is a set of photos to show her progress over the year.
