A few weeks ago I lost my first friend in the war against terror. I knew that it would happen one day as I have a lot of friends and family in the military. It is hard to wrap my mind around this loss. I have been an awful friend and haven't kept in good contact with Brian since high school, but he was such a wonderful person through out the years I did know him well. With that being said, members from my graduating class at Northwest High School are putting together a benefit for Brian's daughters who he left behind. Here is the info:
Sgt. 1st Class W. Brian Woods Jr., of Saint Louis, Missouri passed away at age 31 at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, of wounds suffered when he was shot Aug. 14 while on patrol in Ghanzi, Afghanistan. He is the 40th soldier from Hampton Roads, and the sixth from Chesapeake, who has died while serving his country in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. William served as a Special Forces senior medical sergeant in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. William leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth, and two daughters. He died in Germany with his family by his side.
